Fluid Connectors
Fluid connectors are important parts of many systems, including refrigeration equipment. The two most common varieties of fluid connectors available on the market today are hydraulic couplings and hydraulic fittings. Part 1 of this article is going to cover two critical points to keep in mind when choosing fluid connectors. I will also discuss some of the best brands on the market for fluid connectors and other fluid control devices. This article is designed to help you make an educated choice when it comes to buying fluid connectors.
One of the most common fluid connectors on the market are hydraulic hoses. Hydraulic hoses are typically utilized to connect a low pressure source to a high pressure source. Some hose assemblies have a sealed air gap, which allows pressurized air to be pumped into the hose. When pressure is applied to the hose, this air expands with the increased pressure and creates a vacuum that holds the fluid. This type of connector usually has a female adapter on one end that is connected to either a threaded fluid pump or to an air tank.
Another popular type of fluid connector that is quite popular is the pressure switch assembly. These are made up of a flexible rubber ring and a flexible hose that switch fluid between supply lines. The flexible ring is inserted into the flexible hose, then the seal between the two is created by clamping the ring in place. When a constant pressure is applied across the hose, this creates a vacuum which holds the fluid inside the ring. To prevent an increase in pressure across the hose, a fluid connector may be used to close off the valve.
